Markinch Medical Practice will be operating a medically urgent on the day system on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th August. This is due to a planned computer upgrade and therefore no IT systems will be available on these dates.

We shall be unable to process prescriptions, access results, provide information from your medical records or hospital letters during this time.

Please only telephone on these days if your need is medically urgent and cannot wait until next week.

If you have a non COVID 19 health issue please contact the surgery, a member of the team will take your details, and a clinician will call you back and plan your next stage of treatment with you directly. We understand that things are very different now and that our appointment system has changed during the pandemic, but we have introduced a number of measures to assist you.

Your appointment could be via the telephone, face to face or via a video consultation (Near Me). Face-to-Face appointments are booked by the GPs, once they have had their initial consultation via the telephone with you. This is to reduce the footfall within the Practice whilst COVID is still in circulation. Our ultimate aim it to help our patients in the best possible way and to ensure the safety of all our patients and staff.

At this time, we have suspended the Online Access for making appointments.

Our District Nursing and Health Visitor Teams are still working within the Practice and if you have any issues that they be able to help with please get in touch via the telephone and one of the Reception team will transfer your call to them.

    near me    Near Me Consultations

You may be asked by your clinician to have a “virtual” consultation and this is done via an online consultation tool called Near Me. This is only to be used if you are directed to do so by your clinician.  To use Near Me, you need a device for making a video call such as a smartphone or tablet that is connected to the internet. There is no App to download and you do not need a user account. A link to this is available on our Appointments Section in this website or alternatively click below –


    face coverings   Face Coverings at your GP/Nurse Appointment

During this time we are asking everyone that visits our surgery for an type of appointments to wear a face covering. By face coverings we do not mean a surgical or other medical grade mask but a covering of the mouth and nose that is made of cloth or other textiles and through which you can breathe, for example a scarf or a bandana. When applying or removing the covering, it is important that you wash your hands first and avoid touching your face. After each use, you must wash the face covering at 60 degrees centigrade or dispose of it safely.

There is no requirement to obtain evidence in the form of a letter from a doctor or government that you are exempt from wearing a mask/face covering.

testing  Community Testing for Symptomatic Patients


Test and Protect is the new national programme for testing and contact tracing. Identifying COVID-19 cases early and testing suspected cases in the community is essential as we move into tackling COVID-19 through the Test & Protect programme.


The testing part of this programme is provided by the UK government either through an appointment at a drive-through site (in Fife this is currently located in Glenrothes) or through a self-testing kit sent by post. For most people with suspected COVID symptoms it will be appropriate for them to book themselves a test in this way.


Members of the general population are advised to go to NHS inform to find out how to book a test online. People that do not have online access can phone 0800 028 2816 to arrange a test through the UK programme.

Pxs   Prescription requests

We are limiting access to patients coming into the surgery for the foreseeable future.  Therefore we are asking all our patients who have registered for Patient Access to please order all repeat medication online and state which Pharmacy you would like your prescription to go to.    If you are not signed up for this service please complete your order slip, post it through our letterbox, and as above please annotate which Pharmacy you wish your prescription to go to.
